Three taps, one time
Tap Download. Your browser will warn that this file type can be harmful — it says that for every APK. Choose Download anyway.
Open the downloaded file, from the notification or your Downloads folder.
Tap Install. Updates arrive inside the app from now on, so this is a one-time detour.
Android refuses installs from outside the Play Store until you permit it — once, for the app you downloaded with. Nothing here is unusual; it is the same prompt every sideloaded app produces.
- Android 8 and newer
- A prompt appears saying your browser isn't allowed to install apps. Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, then press Back and tap Install.
- Android 7 and older
- Before opening the file, go to Settings › Security and turn on Unknown sources.
- Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO, Realme, Oppo, Vivo
- These add their own scan. Choose Install anyway or Continue when asked. If it still refuses, turn off Scan app before installing in the security app.
- Samsung, or any Play Protect warning
- If you see Blocked by Play Protect, tap More details then Install anyway. Play Protect flags every app it hasn't seen before, which includes this one.
- "App not installed" or "package appears to be invalid"
- Usually the wrong architecture. Open the caret next to Download and pick a different build — arm64-v8a for any recent phone.
